What do I need to have physical therapy in my home?

Nothing :).

I will bring a table the size of a massage table, so we will need a small area to set that up if needed.

I will bring exercise equipment if needed but if you have weights or any equipment at home I would love to help you figure out the best way to use what you have.

Wear loose clothing that will allow me access to any painful areas and help stretch and mobilize your muscles and joints.

What conditions will benefit from physical therapy with dry needling?

Dry needling is an evidence based treatment technique involving very thin needles inserted into the tissue that is injured.

The needles are often then connected to a machine that delivers a small pain free current that causes a muscle twitch response and then left in place for at least 10 minutes.

Evidence shows that this treatment is not only effective at pain relief, but also helps stimulate blood flow, collagen, and healing.

Research has shown effectiveness at treating multiple conditions such as, but not limited to:

  • low back pain
  • knee arthritis
  • headaches/migraines
  • tennis elbow
  • neck/shoulder tension
  • acute muscular, ligament, or tendon pain/sprain
  • sciatica
  • hip pain
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • running or overuse injuries
  • IT band issues
  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • scar pain and appearance

Is dry needling painful?

Dry needling is not typically painful. The needles used are single use very thin needles. Often times you may not feel them. The appropriate dosing is determined at assessment but typically on the first session could be as few as 2 needles. We will discuss all of this at your first visit.
